Super Hyper Paper Deluxe Mario Bros. Galaxy World Land 4: Partners in Sunshine SuperStar Island & Saga of Time Advance 64 DS 3: One step beyond Mario's X-Cellent Mango Adventure through Sea-Bass World and Beyond: A Ducktale of Epic Proportions aginst an Evil Space Korean Government: The Expansion Pack (abbrieviated to SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX) is the fourth (or 3.5th) game in the SHPDMBGWL4 series by Black Squirrel. Like the last game, it follows the adventures of "Quackers Fransisco Duckworth III" on his quest to save Mario from the clutches of Space Korea. SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX is an "expansion pack" to SHPDMBGWL4 3 rather than a true sequel as the story of SHPDMBGWL4 3 was never quite finished off properly, despite the fact that SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX is bigger than all the other games put together.

This game is also included in the SHPDMBGWL4 Mega Collection.

Story

Spoilers! Plot/ending information may follow (highlight to read):
At the end of SHPDMBGWL4 3, Quackers, "Jengo" Fett, Donley Kong and Player 1 fight the "Leader of Space Korea" who turns out to be Someguy in disguise. Someguy was captured by Space Korea to eliminate Quackers, and as Space Korea were so confident that Quackers would be defeated, a true ending was not programmed in, hence after the battle, Quackers goes in search for one.

SHPDMBGWL4 3 ends with the three "other heroes" and Someguy waiting around for Quackers to find an ending. Eventually they all get bored, and decide to go home, however in this time Space Korea manages to build a brand new "Space Korea" identical to the first, thus meaning all the events of SHPDMBGWL4 3 were pointless.

Quackers interrupts Jengo, Donley and Player 1's quest to go home and the four travel through time to 1924 for no particular reason, much to the dislike of Jengo. Defeating Charlie Chaplin, the fabric of time is torn and Space Korea are able to take control of the Space Time Continuum, meaning it is not physically possible to destroy Space Korea as a replacement will be brought in from another timezone instantly. They also use this time to take control of the internet, setting up a base in MFGG's own Taloncrossing. It is here where Retriever II is abducted and "demonised". Using the power of "R", Retriever II corners Player 1, however Player is saved by the Dragoon Of Mystery from the Player Adventure series, who uses his "Q Power" to block the "R Power". The result causes the explosion of Taloncrossing, and Retriever II supposedly commits suicide. It is a completely pointless event in the story. Then some stuff happens in San Fransisco.

Quackers and co. attempt to attack Space Korea again, but due to the fact it cannot be destroyed eventually Quackers causes a "time travel error", splitting everyone up and damaging the Space Time Continuum beyond repair. He re-emerges in a slightly re-built Taloncrossing with The Alphabet Man who died in the first game. He then meets Jazz Jackrabbit who supposedly died in San Fransisco. By this point Quackers has been awarded the "experienced time traveller" status, meaning his tank sprites become green and he's given a sword. He is also now even more seemingly invincible than before. After a brief platforming segment and the apparent revival of Demon Retriever II, Jengo is found and scolds Quackers to go back and fix time.

Quackers predicts the future where the main characters combine to create Walrushog and everything is sent to Direbo. He also discovers the location of Demon Retriever II who is on Chocolate Island. They invade the Space Korean base there tackling Hitler II's "Star Bird" team and defeating Demon Retriever II again. Then they go to Shed World to find Mario, only to end up destroying it and undergoing "The Space Korean Trail" and a generic Robotron/Smash TV level. They make it to Space Korea II where they get through defenses made from butter, partake in a copy of Earthworm Jim 2's quiz show, fight some random Cheetahkoreans, find a coffee machine in the Amstrad CPC port of Prince of Persia and eventually get to the "disappointing" last boss, the power of R which has now gone rogue and manifested itself into a giant R. But once again there is no ending, and so Quackers has to go find more eggs and keys.

Gameplay

As with previous titles in the series, SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX has a variety of gameplay, which is mostly programmed poorly. The majority of levels are platformers, and each character has their own statistics regarding speed, jump height etc. There are also shoot 'em up, point & click, quiz and text adventure segments as well as strange boss battles.

Secrets

Like SHPDMBGWL4 3, SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX has a stupid amount of secrets to the point where there are more secret levels in the game than ordinary ones, with some secret levels accessible via passwords and being selectable in a "Secretz" menu when each have been completed, and some secret levels accessed by other methods such as Stop 'n' Swop. The secrets themselves count for more than half of the game's percentage. Almost every level contains some form of easter egg or cameo for no reason whatsoever, some of which nobody really cares about.

SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX requires you to have finished Player Adventure DX and SHPDMBGWL4 3, and also requires four more games in order to be completable. Two unreleased games by Black Squirrel, BanjoSonic's "SHPDMBGWL4: BanjoSonic Edition" and another unreleased game by Flametale. This is because the game uses an extensive Stop 'n' Swop system which relies on other games in order to unlock the "true" ending (it is also the first game at MFGG to do so).

One secret level, the Christmas Level, was released separately on the 24th December 2007 to make up for the long delay of the game (Supposedly due to "Bird Migration"). It unlocks features in the full version of SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX, including an "Even better" Christmas level.

Upon completion of the main story a level select also opens up in which the player can start the main story from five particular levels and can even take on challenges to earn Gems, Relics and "Gemrelics" based on Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.

Furthermore, the player can get in-game advice from Black Squirrel, who will deliver one line of potentially useful information per game.

Awards

SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX was nominated for two awards in the MFGG Awards 2008; Best Secrets and Most Replay Value. Amazingly, it won the former. The award was "claimed" by Quackers, and it is likely that this will be mentioned several times in the sequel.

Half way through SHPDMBGWL4 3 EX there is actually a level about how Player Adventure was nominated for the 2007 awards. Player Adventure was beaten by Toad Strikes Back that year, and as such the level points out that the only way SHPDBMGWL4 3 EX could win an award would be to parody this game. Hence, "Toad pimps the east side". It must have worked.

Trivia

  • At one stage in development, Black Squirrel was going to attempt to create a "film set" on the MFGG message boards. Space Korea, who are planned to take over the internet again, were set to "invade" MFGG's message boards, and the replies of various members were to be assembled into a playable level. The idea was scrapped however, and instead Space Korea are due to take over the MFGG main site.
  • Despite being an expansion pack, the game is currently bigger than the first three games combined, and is also bigger than everything else in SHPDMBGWL4 Mega Collection combined sans the MP3 music.
  • SHPDBMGWL4 3 EX was originally planned to use some modules, however this idea has since been scrapped because the filesize is so large. Prototype credits had Quackers fight the DMC2 object, an extension that allows modules to play in TGF.
  • There are many plot holes in the story due to large parts of it being scrapped, namely parts involving MFGG members as Black Squirrel thought this was somewhat irrelevant.
  • The Glory Emblems and their respective "battles" from the first two games were ported to this game because the original versions did not save them and the other option was to re-release the first two games. Once their set battles were cleared the player would then have to search the main game for them. As the Mega Collection versions of the first two games now save the Glory Emblems the ported versions in this game are no longer necessary and have been removed.
  • Some of the Gems, Relics and "Gemrelics" were impossible to obtain because some of their events weren't programmed properly, therefore further rendering the game impossible to beat. The Mega Collection version has many bugs in this system fixed, making the "Gemrelic" quest completable.

SHPDMBGWL4 4

Back in 2008 Black Squirrel had already thought of ideas for another sequel - a game starring Quackers "Alfonso" Duckworth IV, son of Quackers "Fransisco" Duckworth III. Supposedly the mother is a "hot" 1970s "chick" with an afro that hasn't been seen since she uh... laid the egg? Other concept characters included "Buba" Fett, son of Jengo, and Player 1 who supposedly never ages. Donley Kong was not set to return as a main playable character. Those ideas weren't used, and instead these ideas came into play:

  • The original Quackers would return to stop Space Korea once again and eventually becoming a danger to the universe as his mental stability is weakening while at the same time his time and space manipulation powers are growing, thus becoming the game's antihero of sorts.
  • Player 1 having to rescue a captured Donley Kong because nobody cares enough to do so.
  • The Alphabet Man being converted into a fighting robot by Dr. Light to replace Megaman.
  • Snake Logan from the DOS game Bio Menace becoming involved.
  • Jengo Fett becoming "Count Fett" and recruiting the "Star Bird" team members in an attempt to stop Quackers from destroying time.
  • Characters like Chubby Snow (from Mission in Snowdriftland) and Commander Keen becoming bitter and twisted over time due to their obscurity.
  • An appearance of the main character from a game called Socket/Time Dominator.
  • Space Korea having ruled the universe for seven years, disposing of anyone still struggling to stop them, but those who didn't would be left to live their normal lives.
  • More pointless Stop 'n' Swop items including Interrobang Eggs, more Glory Emblems needed to power a Sega Nomad, and Cheato.
  • A new "Secretz" section based on Sonic Crackers.
  • A new Advice section where the user would ask Donley Kong, Black Squirrel, S.K.O.S. or a friendly Emperor Dalek for advice.
  • More references and other stuff not a lot of people would get.

Unfortunately Black Squirrel has lost all interest in the project and stopped working on it due to various factors including creativity blocks and the game topping 30MB or so in file size without any proper playable levels. It is currently unknown when he'll start it up again. A second Christmas special was released in December 2008 though.
