Super Mario Flashback is a fangame that is currently being developed by Mors and the Flashback Team. It brings back older levels from the series and combines the mechanics of 2D and 3D Super Mario titles. It's currently in development.

The game works to combine the mechanics of 2D and 3D Super Mario titles. It is planned to feature 6 different playable characters (3 of which are secret), an unlockable minigame, ten worlds based on older Super Mario title, 36 Power Stars, and 12 Tusk Bucks. Super Mario Flashback will feature costumes, which can be downloaded from and uploaded to a site.

Super Mario Flashbacks first demo won the Game of the Month award of August 2015. The game has been nominated for multiple MFGG Awards ever since, and won multiple of them.

The music is made of existing Super Mario tunes, which were remixed by Can of Nothing and a few guest musicians. Super Mario Flashback uses some custom graphics that were made by Mit, along with edits and custom graphics that were made by Mors, Neweegee, Blutorus, and Q-Nova.

The latest demo was released on MFGG in October 30, 2016.

Playable Characters
*Mario - The only playable character available in the latest demo. Although he doesn't have any special abilities, he is planned to be the most balanced character.

*Luigi - Mario's little brother, who is planned to jump higher than anyone else playable in the game, although his traction is rather low.

*Toad - He is planned to be able to walk faster than Mario, although it takes longer for him to sprint than other playable characters. It is also planned that he'll be an unlockable character.

Worlds
The only worlds that are available in the latest demo are the Mushroom Kingdom and Yoshi's Island. They both contain 3 Power Stars. 3 Green Stars can be collected during the first mission of both worlds.

*Mushroom Kingdom (From Super Mario Bros. for NES)

*Yoshi's Island (From Super Mario World for SNES)

*Cool, Cool Mountain (From Super Mario 64 for N64)

*Ricco Harbor (From Super Mario Sunshine for GCN)

*Bowser's Badlands (From New Super Mario Bros. for NDS)

*Gusty Garden Galaxy (From Super Mario Galaxy for Wii)

Reception
Super Mario Flashbacks first demo received very positive reviews at the main site. People praised it for its soundtrack, graphics, and engine; but criticized it for having some glitches. It currently holds an average score of 8.9/10. It's currently being considered as one of the technically most impressive fangames ever made. While the reception at the outside of MFGG is very positive as well, the demo was criticized for having a broken gamepad support.

The demo won the Game of the Month award of August 2015. On MFGG Awards 2015 Super Mario Flashbacks first demo was nominated for 10 awards (Best Game Overall, Best Demo, Best Sprites, Best Engine, Best Level Design, Most Polished, Most Anticipated, Best Concept, Best Setting and Best Use of Site Resources), while it only won 4 of them (Best Demo, Best Engine, Most Polished and Best Use of Site Resources). The same demo also got the largest number of likes on NCFC 2015.

The second demo received less positive than the first one, with the new levels not having good level design as one of the main things that people criticized.

The latest demo's reception includes criticism of the glitches and the new third mission on Yoshi's Island. On MFGG Awards 2016, the game tied for Best Game Overall and Best Sprites.
