The music is made of existing Super Mario tunes, which were remixed by Can of Nothing and a few guest musicians. The original version of Super Mario Flashback used sprites that were made by Mit, along with some edits and custom sprites. On July 6th, 2017 Mors decided to switch to a new engine. Alongside this switch, the game started to use a completely new art style.

On MFGG Awards 2015 it was nominated for 10 awards (Best Game Overall, Best Demo, Best Sprites, Best Engine, Best Level Design, Most Polished, Most Anticipated, Best Concept, Best Setting and Best Use of Site Resources), while it only won 4 of them (Best Demo, Best Engine, Most Polished and Best Use of Site Resources).
