The ''Custom Word Filter'' was a modification [[Retriever II]] put together for the board software to allow members to change and create their own word filters on the forum. This would allow members to convert netspeak to words of full length (such as laugh out loud instead of lol) and if they so wished use simple words or phrases to post their own emoticons. Various settings such as turning the default filter on/off, setting whether words you read, write, or both will be filtered, etc. These settings could be accessed in the User CP under the Options section, in Board Settings and Word Filters.

Another useful way in which you may use the filters is to filter bad URLs and abusive HTML. For example, if someone were to link you to http://www.mfgg.taloncrossing.com rather than the correct URL of http://mfgg.taloncrossing.com, you would be logged out when you clicked their link. Images they post from the attachment system and emoticons under that URL may not work properly either. To solve this, simply filter http://www.mfgg.taloncrossing.com to the correct URL making sure that the filter is set so that when you read it, it will be filtered. Anytime someone links to the incorrect URL or posts an emoticon from that address, whether it be in their post or their signature, it will be fixed.
