The Legend of Zelda: Mushroom Panic! is a Mario and Zelda crossover, where you play as Link in the Mushroom Kingdom, fighting enemies such as Goombas and Koopas. It even has a fully working heart system, with heart containers and a nice-looking HUD.

Story

Ganon had kidnapped Zelda yet again, but this time he had a secret weapon, a magical book with a picture of a peculiar white=spotted mushroom with a red top and eyes. After climbing Ganon's tower, Ganon used the book to teleport Link, as well as himself and a bunch of his own troops into a strange land, where the mushrooms walk and the turtles are bipedal! Of course, Link hadn't a clue as to what was in store for him...

Gameplay

Featuring a semi-smooth engine, with auto and walljumping, the game is somewhat well-received. An interesting part of the design is the fact that the player cannot jump by himself. Instead, walk to a cliff of some sort, and Link will jump all by himself. You can also press up to jump off of walls to get to higher areas. There are also springs positioned in certain areas for Link to jump off of, giving a great amount of height.

Weapons

Of course, any good Zelda game has to have items of some sort! So far, there are only 3, but more are to come.

  • Shield - You can buy these at Toad stores found in many places, hold Down to defend yourself against enemies, and even flip Spineys! You could also use this to fall down to areas that you normally wouldn't be able to get to.
  • Bombs - A classic Zelda item, you can use these to blow up brick blocks and enemies alike. Also try shooting them with an arrow to enter normally unreachable areas!
  • Bow - With this, you can shoot far-off targets, or shoot your bombs with them for a bomb-arrow combo! Of course, ammo is somewhat limited unless you can find a larger quiver...

Progress

Due to laziness as well as certain things getting in the way, progress is usually slow, and therefore there has not been a new demo in nearly 2 months. Currently there is one world, with 4 levels in it, including one boss and miniboss. What is planned is about 4 worlds, with 4 levels,a boss, and of course a miniboss each.
