Development of this game has paused for an extended period of time.

Wario Land X is a sidescrolling platforming Wario fangame set to come out sometime in 2009. It is being done in Game Maker 7 and uses Ultramario's Warioland engine.

Production

Wario Land X was started in November 2007 as a small, easy and very linear game, and has worked its way up to be much larger and more challenging.

As of Summer 2008, Blackcat12 has gained the help of both Knight Nappse and Meta Koopa, who are both official spriters for the game. Various others around the forum have pitched in as well, including Buggo, 404 Not Found, Luigis No1, and the now-banned Out of Order and LocoRoo.

The game was progressing slowly but surely until 2009, its intended year of release, when Blackcat12 lost interest in the project. However, because of the time and emotional investment spent on the project, he does not plan to leave it dead forever, and in fact has ideas for improving the product.

Gameplay

The gameplay is a mix of the different formulas found in the Wario Land series and in Wario World. The game is mildly beat-em-up oriented, as every level has crowds of enemies for the player to shoulder-bash through. There are are also large amounts of gold and treasure scattered throughout the levels. Currently, the money you collect can only be used to continue if Wario dies, but Blackcat12 is hoping to implement something else for you to spend money on.

Being the big fan of boss battles that he is, Blackcat12 has arranged for there to be as many of them as possible in this game. Taking a page from Wario World's book, each world of the game has two levels, each with its own boss fight at the end; once these two levels and their respective bosses have been beaten, a doorway to the major boss battle of that world is opened. (In the demo, Wario had to fight a tank-riding Tatanga) Gaining triumph over that boss will allow Wario to access the next world.

Story

Blackcat12 has written a full story for the game, but is refusing to reveal any details about it until the game's full release.

Demo

On August 18th, 2008, a demo showcasing the game's first world was submitted to the main site. It received mixed reviews and various criticisms about clashing graphics, various glitches, and the game's unfair difficulty. Blackcat12 listened to these criticisms, and addressed most of these problems.
