Vorbis, named after a character from Discworld, is a free software, open-source, unpatented, lossy sound compression format. Due to its association with the Ogg container format, it is often known as Ogg Vorbis.
Vorbis files are much smaller compared to MP3 files with negligible quality loss, if not clearer, but are not as widely supported. Of course, they generally sound better than an equivalent *.MIDI file.
