Variable jumping is a technique for the character in a Platform Game to jump different heights depending on certain circumstances; usually, this is done by holding the jump key for different lengths of time. However, other factors can play into this, such as horizontal speed. A still jump will allow for a certain height, a walking jump will allow a slightly higher jump, and a running jump will allow for an even higher one.
