Tanooki Mario Winter is the second fangame released by bigmariofan1.0. It started as a minigame competition entry using a winter themed game that utilized the mouse. Since there was a deadline the game was rushed in more ways than one.

Development

There are currently two releases of the game. There is the original Tanooki Mario Winter and the more recent remake Tanooki Mario Winter 2.0

The original was completed within a very short timespan with limited resources and effort, however the remake had much more time and resources devoted to it. In the latest version, there are improved controls, graphics and gameplay. A reward trophy system was also added to add to the game's replay value.

Tanooki Mario Winter 2.0

After the alleged failure of the game's original release, bigmariofan1.0 decided years later to completely remake the game. In the remake the graphics were improved and matched. The controls were also improved and diversified for the benefit of other players' ability to play the game well. In addition to using the Tanoomba enemy, enemies were also given the ability to use stray, unused action orbs that the player set down. Items were also added to the game. In the original, only coins were available to the player, but in the remake you can also collect 1-Up Mushrooms, Fire Flowers and a secret item. To allow for more replay value, a reward system was installed. After the player collected so many points, a trophy would be added (accessed through the main menu) and addition content was made accessible.

Feedback

The minigame wasn't very well-received. Its highest review was a 2/10. With the original release being very rushed and unpolished, there was little praise for the game. The remake was reviewed only once and given a 5/10 because of the allegedly difficult controls which were altered shortly after the review was posted.
