Super Mario Zero is the fourth major platforming fangame being designed by Zero Kirby. It is currently a stand-alone game and not of any particular storyline. It uses a far smoother engine than Zero Kirby's other works.
Gameplay
The game will play similarly to Zero's other titles. You have a health meter with four segments. When you lose all four segments, you lose a life. Lives in this game will be handled in a different matter; when you enter a stage, you are given an amount of lives to complete the stage with. Lives do not carry over from stage to stage. When you run out of lives, you will return to the map. Currently, however, this has not been implemented.
The game will feature powerups. The only ones that are publicly confirmed are Fire Mario and Invincible Mario.
Development
The game was originally called Super Mario Classic Two: Mushroom Archipelago. After several engine issues and replacements, plus a lack of interest from the creator, it was canned and the engine was cleaned up for use in Super Mario Zero.
A demo is in the works for the upcoming (as of this writing) Nintendo Community Fangame Convention.
