Super Mario & The Elemental Orbs is developed by WreckingGoomba, LSF Games, Pyro, MarioMan564, and Hero. The game's former composer, Benjamin (also known as smithuser) has left the project in 2014. The game was first called Super Mario Bros. Omega, but WreckingGoomba didn't like the name after all and changed it. It has online multiplayer as well, without the use of any external programs, and it has a custom engine. It currently has five released demos.

Story

Legend speaks of orbs that hold great power, each guarded by strong beings known as Guardians. Many brave explorers have searched for them, but none have ever returned. One day however, a Goomba discovers several are hidden in Bowser's Castle. Using their power, he builds up an army. Now Princess Peach has sent Mario to defeat the Guardians, collect their orbs, and keep Bowser from attacking the Mushroom Kingdom.

Gameplay

It plays like almost any other 2D platformer. Some levels have NPC Toads you can talk to, but they have no affect on gameplay. You cannot however, crouch or slide down slopes; something most fangames have. Aside from the use of a powerup, jumping on an enemy is the only way to defeat it. You are defeated when you run out of health (which you have four "hearts" of).

There are a number of items in the game, some of which are custom:

  • Mushroom - These refill one heart
  • Life Mushroom - These refill all of your hearts
  • 1-up Mushroom - This grants you one additional life
  • Fire Flower - This allows you to shoot fireballs
  • Tornado Leaf - This allows you to double jump inside a tornado (the tornado also defeats enemies on contact)
  • Gravity Mushroom - This makes you jump higher and reduces gravity, allowing you to jump further

All of these can be bought at a shop, which is accessed from the map screen. The map screen is inspired by Super Mario 3D Land.

Worlds

Currently, there are four worlds.

  • World 1 - The grassland
  • World 2 - The islands
  • World 3 - The ice land
  • World 4 - The desert

Each world has one fight against Boom Boom. He gains one additional ability every time you fight him.

Collectibles

Each level has three star coins hidden inside. Currently, there is no use for them, but they will have a special use in the final version of the game.
