Super Luigi and the Golden Shrooms is a Mario fangame created by Hello.
Storyline
Luigi is off on a journey to get rich by collecting golden mushrooms. According to the storyline, once all of the Mushroom Kingdom's golden shrooms have been collected, they will function as a key to an ancient vault filled with riches.
Gameplay
The gameplay is basic Mario fare; to progress, the player must run and jump through the game's levels, whilst defeating enemies, avoiding traps, and collecting as many golden mushrooms as possible. The yellow pipes lead to a special room where players can save.
Luigi's quest for the 60 Golden Shrooms takes him to mountains, a desert, a forest, a tundra, an airship, the sky, and a host of caves and underwater sections. All regions of the game are interconnected, similar to games like Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. Super Luigi and the Golden Shrooms has much in common with Hello's other collection games, including Super Mario Bros: Shine Expedition. While Luigi doesn't "handle" any differently from Mario in Hello's other games, many reviewers found the different starring character to be a nice change of pace. This game has earned a lot of rave reviews, although it can be laggy on slower computers. Also, the Ogg Vorbis music helps make this one of Hello's smallest games in terms of size and download time.
Reception
Super Luigi and the Golden Shrooms has received excellent reviews on the MFGG boards and won the October 2008 Game of the Month.
