Sonic Retro

Sonic Retro is a website based around Sonic the Hedgehog. Initially a Sonic-themed Wiki, it has since merged with the forums of Sonic 2 Beta and has it's own popular IRC channel. It is one of the main players in the Sonic research community and is currently developing Sonic 2 HD, a Sonic fangame which brings the classic game Sonic 2 in "high definition". It's also home to many skilled people ranging from ROM hackers to fangamers.

Following his promotion to administrator, Black Squirrel has "borrowed" many concepts from Sonic Retro and forums like it. Group Icons (which unintentionally ended up being colour coded almost exactly the same), Flags and to a degree, the Casual Conversation Castle system were inspired by there. He had also considered mimicing the "trial member" system (where a new user can only post 20 times until approved by an administrator), but decided against it.

Few people migrate from Sonic Retro to MFGG because the purposes of the two forums are very different, but as Retro is slowly building more bridges with the Sonic fangames community, it is possible that MFGG will gain some more in the future.
