Shell Bounce is a fangame by ArnuroMinigon, and is his first one to be released on MFGG. It features Koopa shells as the protagonists, which can be switched during gameplay. There are six difficulties in the game, which have their own unique backgrounds and music during gameplay. The difficulties are Easier, Easy, Normal, Hard, Harder, and Hell.

Gameplay

The player uses a mouse to move a cursor, which is followed by a Koopa shell. There are seven different Koopa shells in the game, which can be switched by pressing certain number keys. Some of them can hit enemies by simply running into them, while other Koopa shells can only attack with either a projectile or an earthquake. The Koopa shells that don't attack by moving into enemies attack when the cursor is moved through them. Projectiles move towards the cursor.

During the game, enemies get spawned from time to time (how many will depend on the selected difficultly). Galoombas are one of them, which just move around. Another kind of enemies are Spinies, which go into their shell and move in a random direction, defeating any enemies and even the Koopa shell in their way, when they get hit (although projectiles from the red Koopa shell and black Koopa shell can just destroy them). Rarely, a Hammer Bro will appear, which doesn't really do anything besides moving around a bit. The Koopa shell and enemies can move to one side of the screen and then warp to the other side.

When enemies get defeated, points are earned. Once a Koopa shell gets hit by a spinning Spiny shell, the final score will be revealed, and then the game will end.

Koopa shells

  • Green Koopa shell - Basic Koopa shells that can defeat by running into them. They can be switched into by pressing the number zero.
  • Blue Koopa shell - These Koopa shells act like the green ones, but they are much faster. They can be switched into by pressing the number one.
  • Magenta Koopa shell - When the cursor is moved through these Koopa shells, a few rocks come out of the background and enemies that are close to the shell are damaged. They can be switched into by pressing the number two.
  • Red Koopa shell - Koopa shells that can shoot fireballs, which can even destroy Spinies. They can be switched into by pressing the number three, if the game's difficultly is set to at least Normal.
  • Yellow Koopa shell - They can fire sparks, which can bounce off of enemies they hit on contact. They can be switched into by pressing the number four, if the game's difficultly is set to at least Hard.
  • Purple Koopa shell - These act like the magenta Koopa shells, but their range for defeating enemies is much wider. They can be switched into by pressing the number five, if the game's difficultly is set to at least Harder.
  • Black Koopa shell - Spheres that explode shortly after they are shot can be fired by these Koopa shells. The explosion caused by the spheres destroy enemies, including Spinies. They can be switched into by pressing the number six, if the game's difficultly is set to Hell.

Reception

Shell Bounce has so far only received one review on the main site, which gave the game a score of 6/10. It praised some of the music choices and the array of Koopa shells, but it criticized the small variety of enemies and most of the graphical effects.
