The News forum was originally a forum dedicated for news regarding the site and forums. Though it was useful for this purpose, it was rarely used. Eventually it was closed, and now the General Chat serves as the main forum for posting news.

Nowadays, the News Forum is a forum that only appears when something really important happens. A good example of this is the E3 Forum, which only appears when the E3 event is about to start. The News Forum has been known to appear for important Mario games, the last major one being Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year door.

The original News forum is now used as a testing area for admins.
