No further work is being done on this project, and a release is not likely.

New Super Mario 3 is a fangame created by Ultramario. It is the relatively long awaited sequel to his fangame, New SuperMario 2.

Original NSM3

New Super Mario 3 was originally meant to bring some Metroid elements to Mario (such as optional expansion power-ups, that'll for example increase the maximum amount of health points for Mario). The game would have taken place in seven gigantic levels/worlds with multiple themes (for example Gigantic Glacier would have consisted from an active volcano along with an Icy cave and (quite obviously) Glacier). This project started on 22nd April 2007.

World names:

  • Goomba Meadow and Highland
  • Koopahari Desert Valley
  • Beetle Mines
  • Gigantic Glacier
  • Rhino Jungle And Ruins
  • Spooky Building Ground
  • Fortress In The Sky

Submitting to MFGG.net

Submission progress of the Demo of New Super Mario 3 suffered from strange glitch in the system of MFGG.net. The game was technically accepted, but it did not appear on the site.

Overview

The engine in New Super Mario 3 is much more advanced than in it's prequels. Most notable improvement is that the game runs in a higher framerate and has whole a lot more accurate physics. The game also has slopes and an ability to pick up and throw objects. New Super Mario 3's engine surpasses even ultra mario engine, on which the game was previously planned to be made. The game also includes a more advanced map engine similar to the one in Super Mario World.

The game introduces new blue coin system; which allows the player to buy power-ups and extra lives from the start spot, Mushroom Market. Blue coins appear in levels much more frequently than Yoshi coins in previous New Super Marios and they respawn each time you re-enter rooms. Blue coins will have some other uses like unlocking extra levels.

The game has been canceled, because the game's engine has become very laggy and glitchy (The previous NSM3 project was canceled for the very same reason).
