What are Movie Munchies?

Movie Munchies are a series of short reviews by Mario Gamer. They were started on May 1st, 2005 with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Since then, over 100 movies have been reviewed. One comes out generally every week. The term "Munchies" was just the first word that Mario Gamer thought of that started with M. They started out with just a few sentences but lately, have grown to several paragraphs. They were never intended to be actual reviews, but more of short paragraphs to read quickly and get to the point.

Season One (2005)

The first year of Movie Munchies started on May 1st, 2005 with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The layout started with two to three sentences and a score on a scale from one to ten. Season Three (2007)

The final year of Movie Munchies started on January 30th, 2007 with Epic Movie. The layout was drastically changed for the first time in two years, adding pictures between paragraphs and changing the score from a scale from 1-10 to 1-5. (Which comes out the same anyway) The icons in Mario Gamer's sig displayed the score to the movie as well, which was later taken out after a few movies as it "just looked bad". The photos were also taken out in August due to complaints of the reviews being too short. (They were still the same length but the pictures made them appear even smaller). The season was abruptly stopped after #109, Walk Hard. Some were lost in the roll back of The Great Mistake and were scheduled to be rewritten in early 2008. However continuous backlash as well as loss of interest led to Movie Munchie's ultimate demise. There will be no DVD wrap up or Awards for the third season.

The Future (2008 and Onward)

There is no expectation that Movie Munchies will return. Mario Gamer has stated that they are done indefinitely, his reasons for leaving can be found in the following quote.

“After three years of writing these things, I was just tired. I was tired of paying over ten bucks each weekend for seeing movies, both good and bad. I was tired of having my weekend nights booked while I could be doing something video game wise. But mostly I was tired of all the crap I was getting at the end. I know this is really ironic to complain about criticism over a movie review series, but I was just tired of people telling me how I should write my reviews. They're MY reviews, they've always been short and right to the point. Besides interest was declining at the end with little or no posts in the topics. So I realized an era was over, packed up, and shipped out.”

However as he hinted in his farewell speech of 2006, he will return to review a few that strike his interest.

Occurrences

Wario Tamer Incident

On Decmeber 9, 2005 a member by the name of Wario Tamer bumped each movie topic and added his own "munchies". They were made to reverse what Mario Gamer had reviewed earlier. As you can tell Wario Tamer is a obvious take off of Mario Gamer. This member was later found out to be Mugenmidget during the Phishfest Fiasco.

Imitations

The only noteable Movie Munchies imitation at this time is a review system introduced in the PPP by Kaepora in summer 2005 named "Kaepora's Kinema Krunchies" (KKK). It was a sarcastic representation of Mario Gamer's review system, which although looked the same, was completey negative and vitriolic even when reviewing quality movies. This was seemingly a response to how positive Mario Gamer was with his reviews. The system Kaepora had introduced had long vanished from the PPP until June 2006, when 'Superman Returns' was released in theaters. Kaepora gave the movie a blazing '1/10', solely because Mr. Mxyzptlk did not appear as the main villain.

Movie reviews have also been done by other MFGGers, some notable names include Cutman, Lemmy and tonberry.

Coded Movie Munchie

For The Da Vinci Code's movie munchie Mario Gamer decided to do something a little different then normal. The review was written in a 'code'. It was later solved by Duckboy

100th Movie Munchie

The 100th movie munchie took place on August 22nd, 2007 with the review of Rush Hour 3. As a joke, Mario Gamer gave the movie a 0/5. (Which it would've earned a 1/5 anyway) The review was met with much criticism and outcry. The discussion turned to the state of Movie Munchies and call for a new reviewer.
