Microsoft, is a US based multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington that develops and licenses products relating to computers and computing. Measured by revenue, it is the largest software company in the world. Microsoft was founded by Paul Allen and Bill Gates on April 4, 1975. Microsoft was originally founded to create BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. The company very quickly rose to fame with its release of the MS-DOS software. Which was followed by the Microsoft Windows brand operating system. Since the 90's the company has diversified from the operating system market. On May 11, 2011 Microsoft purchased Skype for 8.5 billion USD, being their largest purchase to date.
