Mario Minigame Mayhem 2 is an minigame collection game made by RevampedSpider that was released on July 7th, 2019 on the forums, and July 9th on the mainsite. It was created for the Ye Olde MFGGe Jamboree hosted by Roo on the forums. It is an unofficial, ironic sequel to the infamous Mario Minigame Mayhem. Like the first game, there are 4 minigames. However, they are each dedicated to 4 characters: Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi respectively. Also unlike the first game, Mario Minigame Mayhem 2 uses Godot rather than Game Maker. The game also holds the distinction of being released on Mac and Linux as well, though these versions of the game were exclusively released on GameJolt, while the Windows version is currently exclusive to MFGG.

Gameplay

The game features 4 character specific minigames, each having a different objective to win. All minigames except for Wario's use the same basic platforming gameplay, though the way they are presented makes them stand out from each other.

In Mario's minigame, titled Mario Milk Delivery in the readme file, has the player make their way to a house with a carton of milk on Mario's head. The platforms are simply grass tiles, which make the level look rushed, a common element of older fangames. If the player falls off of the level, they are simply placed back at the beginning. Once the player reaches the house, they win the minigame.

Luigi's minigame, Luigi.exe, is a parody of popular .EXE horror games like Sonic.exe. All the player has to do is to keep walking until they see Mario's body on the ground, with red squares representing blood coming out. Touching Mario causes a comical jumpscare of a realistic Mario. Falling off of the level will also cause the jumpscare as well. Strangely, Mario's sprite is taken from an in-game image of Super Mario 64. Humorously, the song in the minigame is the Super Mario Bros. Super Show theme in reverse.

After being jumpscared, Wario's minigame titled Wario Quick Draw will begin. The game takes place in King Dedede's arena from Kirby Super Star, and features Wario fighting a giant broccoli monster. The drowning theme from Sonic 3 plays, and the player must wait until the word "Draw!" appears to press the spacebar on time, which will cause Wario to attack and win the match. If the player is too late to attack however, the broccoli will attack Wario, forcing the player to try again.

The final minigame, Waiting, consists of Waluigi standing on a sidewalk in a city. Nothing happens, except for the Jeopardy theme playing in the background. All the player can do is walk off-screen, causing "Waluigi has left the chat." to appear, which closes the game after a few seconds. According to the readme file, Waluigi got an email from "Nirtendo" that told him to wait outside for them to arrive at 6:00. It is revealed that two hours had passed, making it 8:00, and the representatives haven't shown up. Nothing happens if the player decides to wait, making the only option having Waluigi leave the area.

Trivia

  • The title screen features links to the jamboree page, as well as to the mainsite.
    • The mainsite version also added a credits button, allowing the player to see the credits.
  • All of the songs in the game are MIDI sequences converted into .ogg files.
  • The credits feature a MIDI version of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.
  • Waluigi's minigame is a reference to how, unlike Luigi and Wario (who are side characters), he's never officially starred in his own game. It could also be seen as a nod to Waluigi also not being a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series, also unlike both of them.
