Luigi and the Quest for Nothing is a fangame created by Lu9 starring Luigi as the main protagonist. The goal of the game is to find the nothing. The game has 8 levels and is based on the style of the original NES Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels.

Story

In a normal day on the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi gets bored. So bored, he decided to venture in a journey to, literally, find nothing.

Reception

VinnyVideo played both Review and Final versions of the game and liked it. The game rating in the Review Edition, is 7.9/10, but on the Final Version, only one person reviewed until now, and gave it a 10/10. Lu9 didn't actually like their review for being poorly written. The current version, DX, stands with an 8/10.

Luigi and the Quest for Nothing - Enhanced

Lu9 released an enhanced version with 16-bit graphics and CD quality music, a couple bug fixes, added mini-games and more secrets on NCFC 2013. It wasn't received as well as the original game.

Also known as Luigi and the Quest for Nothing Revisited, a director's cut version of the original made in 2017, long after the sequel had been announced. It introduces more fixes to the game, which has been given more NES accuracy, a completely revamped soundtrack, as well as being ported over to Game Maker: Studio 1.4.

Luigi and the Quest for Nothing 2

A sequel to the game is in development. It will have more content, animated cutscenes, minigames, hidden secrets and boss battles. The game focuses on being a homage to obscure games on the Game Boy Color, using a mix of 8-bit Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World graphics, and its story will focus on the powers of the nothing as well as the reason for the bizarre crossovers. The game has a couple of demos available and a new demo is set to be shown at SAGE 2021. The game was originally being made in Game Maker 8, but in 2016 Lu9 has decided to port it over to Game Maker: Studio 1.4, and finally, in 2020, the game has been ported successfully to Game Maker: Studio 2.3, the latest version.
