Creating an Article. That'll probably be the one of the first things you want to do. But how do you achieve this? Well in this section of our fantasmic help section you can find out!
Contents
Step 1: Creation
MediaWiki is strange. It doesn't have a "make a page" link/button so that throws a lot of people off straight away. You don't need special rights to start a page (though you do have to be registered and not banned, obviously).
<-- Somewhere on the left hand side here there is a search box. Simply type the name of the page you want to make in here and click "GO".
Assuming the page doesn't exist already you should be presented with the following:
There is no page titled ":<article name>". You can create this page. For more information about searching Mario Fan Games Galaxy Wiki, see Searching Mario Fan Games Galaxy Wiki.
Simply click the link saying "Create this page" and boom - an empty document shall appear before you. Do make sure the document is related to MFGG in some way. In theory you could write about anything but we'll get rid of it if it's of no use to us.
Don't worry about all the search results - that's just to help you find an already existing page of a similar name if you've made a typo or something.
ALTERNATIVELY
Clicking any red link will bring you to a similar page. The only problem with that is obviously if there isn't already a red link linking to your nonexistant article, it won't work. We do have a list of red links however.
Step 2: Editing
What to put in this fantastic new article of yours... Well a good idea would be to put something relevant to the article's name in it. Good spelling and grammar is advised. See the next page on editing tips. Don't make up stuff, keep it neutral and beyond all else DO NOT LEAVE THE PAGE BLANK OR WE WILL DELETE IT.
Step 3: Formatting
We'll get to MFGG's prefered methods of formatting later, but the goal here is to not make it too messy. Messy articles gives other people more work to do.
Step 4: Saving
When you're done with your article click the "save page" button at the bottom of the screen and the article will be produced for all to see. HOWEVER, only click this when you're "done", not after every minor edit. i.e. don't save after every word. To see how your page looks, click "Show Preview". "Show Changes" only really applies to edits and won't help much on a brand new page.
It is important that you use the "show preview" button. There's not much point in saving 432094823 minor edits when it can all be covered in one big edit. It also helps you identify other problems such as spelling/grammar, formatting errors, etc.
Step 5: Observe
After saving your page, the article will be here for us all to see, and for us all to edit. If it's not up to scratch chances are it'll be improved by someone else. A good idea is to see what they're doing and learn from it, so if you're planning on making another similar article less extra editing will be needed. Unless the page is locked there will always be the "edit" tab above if you need to fix it up some more.
But if you've got to this stage, you've made an article. Hurray.
