Expressions are basically just mathematical equations formed by variables, functions, and operators. In the Click products, they are entered into the Expression Editor. Expressions are a much more flexible way of defining how conditions and actions work, compared to some of the "hardcoded" solutions. For example, the Play Sample File action brings up a file browser dialog that lets you select the sample. However, choosing samples this way could lead to many similar conditions that could have been represented with a single expression; as such, most conditions or actions that bring up this sort of dialog also include the option to use an expression instead.

Expressions are the only plain-text form of coding in the Click range, and is the only thing that is able to be copied verbatim onto a different medium such as an e-mail or message board; actions and conditions must be manually converted to text equivalents (the exact formatting of which differs by user).

A list of "base" expressions included in Click products can be found here. Note that not all of these expressions are included in all versions.
