Artificial intelligence

From Mario Fan Games Galaxy Wiki

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the standard term for a limited thought process that NPCs / enemies / bosses / etc. in video games can have. It rarely extends to commands that can be triggered by player movement or decisions, and if it does, it only ever goes as far as completely random decisions that can be calculated by the game. In most fangames, the AI is limited in terms of what it's capable of, and usually, this is due to the limitations of the software used, such as Multimedia Fusion or Game Maker. However, one can go very far even with these limitations accounted for. A notable example is a perfect Chain Chomp AI that was made using the LUA extension for MMF2 by our very own Retriever II. Most early fangames usually just have enemies on fixated pathways and decisions, as this was a common way of making enemies and the like.
