The Angry Sun Strikes Back is a minigame VinnyVideo made for a Minigame Competition in April 2011, which had a theme of "The Angry Sun" and also required entrants to begin and finish their games within a 24-hour window. Real-life projects and the revival of MFGG Wrestling prevented Vinny from completing the game within the time limit, although he still got a Badge for the demo and released a finished version of the game (using a second 24-hour block) a few days later. The game is superficially based on the infamous game Dodge the Shyguys.
Premise
A trove of Shy-Guy invaders (which may or may not be references to Colonel Gaddafi) has invaded The Angry Sun's desert homeland, and you must use his powers to swoop down and zap the various Shy-Guys and Fly-Guys. Some enemies possess squirt guns and water cannons, both of which are anathema to your character. The Angry Sun has no special attacks other than the ability to swoop down and defeat enemies. VinnyVideo originally intended to include a fireball attack (as seen in Mario Kart DS) but found no convenient way to implement it. At the end of the first level, players are awarded a bonus based on the amount of energy they have left and proceed to face a helicopter boss. Defeating it earns another HP-based bonus, as well as a second bonus based on the amount of time it took to finish both levels.
Reception
The Angry Sun Strikes Back didn't receive any votes in the Minigame Competition final voting, since it was the only entry that wasn't fully playable. However, many people who played it thought it had some potential.
