Adventures of SWITCH is a fangame by Tech Wing, and originally Someguy's winning entry for the Minigame Competition #36 on MFGG 5.5. It didn't see a release on the main site until August 19, 2016. It is unusual for the fact that it features props and items from the Mario games as having lives.

Story

The game begins with a living "!"-less ! Switch, who was exiting their house and getting excited about the possibility that today might be when they'll finally get a "!" marked on them. The ! Switch went to the Switch Palace, while avoiding wild creatures (which are living Mario power-ups) and unusual purple and green ? Blocks.

Spoilers! Plot/ending information may follow (highlight to read):
When the ! Switch got to the Switch Palace, they saw a gang of purple and green ? Blocks, which are known as the "Block Gang". They were pressing the Switch Palace (which is basically a giant ! Switch with a door), as revenge for being messed with the ! Switches, as a member of the gang had stated. The Block Gang hopped away after then. The ! Switch tried to go after them, but a big ! Switch stopped them and said that vengeance isn't really the answer to the situation. The big ! Switch claimed that the "!" that are marked on ! Switches represent power.

The story ends with a cliffhanger.

Gameplay

The player controls a "!"-less ! Switch, an unusual choice for the main character. The ! Switch can slide, jump, and ground pound. Ground pounding is used as a way to defeat most enemies and break brick blocks, although the ! Switch will become a bit flatter. If the ! Switch becomes completely flat, then they must start over at the beginning of the current section. Throughout the level, coins can be found, which will make the ! Switch rounder once collected. Coins can be also found by defeating enemies.

Enemies

  • Super Mushroom - These basic enemies just slide back and forth, not really caring for what's around them.
  • Carrot - These descend slowly on the air, until the ! Switch comes under them. In that case, they'll fall down. Once they strike at the ground, they'll become stuck, leaving a chance for the ! Switch to strike back.
  • Fire Flower - At first they appear small, but when the ! Switch comes near them, they'll grow, and shoot a lot of fireballs shortly after.
  • Purple & Green ? Block - Unusual-looking ? Blocks that seem to act like the normal non-living ones. However though, coming near them will make them fall, and then hop after the ! Switch. They cannot be ground pounded and instead must be hit from the bottom.

Reception

Adventures of SWITCH won the Minigame Competition #36 on MFGG 5.5. The game received one mixed review on the main site, which, while it praised the unique gameplay and story, it criticized the short length and considered the visuals and audio to be uninteresting. A couple comments on the main site had stated that they found the game to be entertaining and fresh.

Sequel

Tech Wing had stated in the main site that they planned a sequel to Adventures of SWITCH, although they doubted that it would ever happen. No screenshots, videos, or even a demo was shown yet.
