Abandonware

From Mario Fan Games Galaxy Wiki

Abandonware is a term for software that has literally been abandoned by its author in favour of a newer version, but still distrubuted to the public. Abandonware tends to be free and usually applies to older games.

Some examples are Klik and Play, and other DOS applications. As said on Wikipedia, "Abandonware is a product, typically a software, ignored by its owner and manufacturer, and for which no product support is available. It is differentiated from a discontinued product because the manufacturer has not issued an official notice of discontinuance, instead, the manufacturer is simply ignoring the product. Although such software is usually still under copyright, the owner may not be tracking or enforcing copyright violations."

Abandonware could be anything including mobile phones, and even utility software.

Like the Wikipedia page said, abandonware, if still under copyright enforcement, could be illegal.
