The follow-up to MarioQuest, MarioQuest 2: Sonic Returns was the final game to be released onto the Bowser Tech website before its demise. Though its overall quality is considered dated by today's standards, MarioQuest 2 is regarded as one of MFGG's all-time classic fangames.

Gameplay

MarioQuest 2, like its predecessor, is a top-view action-adventure game, a la The Legend of Zelda. The player controls either Mario or Bowser (depending on the level), and is able to move around the various maps in eight directions, shooting fireballs to defeat enemies and bosses. With the addition of new power-ups (such as bananas that can be used to stop enemies in their tracks), better dialogue scenes, and greater variety in stage design, MarioQuest 2 is generally considered superior to its predecessor. However, the rare yet aggravating "invincible enemies" glitch from MarioQuest remains, and later stages and bosses present extreme and often frustrating difficulty levels.
